Enter The World Of “Tower Of Saviors” In An iPad App
Tower of Saviors (TOS) is a hybrid puzzle and card game for the iPad and the iPhone created by Hong Kong-based game company, Madhead. This gem of an iPad app combines the intricate lore of a trading card game with the quick-draw, rapid-fire awesomeness of those puzzle games everyone’s into lately — in other words, it’s both very familiar and quite like nothing you’ve seen before, all at the same time.
Rise, and Save a Broken World
TOS is not your run-off-the-mill game. This is one iPad app driven to life by a storyline as interesting as it is curious. Players are sure to enjoy being immersed to the mystery and urgency of the lore that permeates every part of the game. TOS brings the player to what remains of a nameless, broken world. Legends run abound about a tower that stood at the center of the world. It was the Enochian Tower, built in ancient times to enable mankind to reach heaven and learn the ways of the gods. However, all of this was not to be – demons from within the nether reaches breached the Enochian Tower in a mad attempt to destroy the gods. This dastardly act led to a full-blown war between gods and humans in one hand, and demons in the other. The war raged on, and as time passed, the demons were able to charge onward, running closer and closer to the gods’ realm. The tides of battle seemed to favor the demons, and all seemed lost. In a last-ditch attempt to stop the war, the gods destroyed the Enochian Tower’s top portion and sealed the demons within what remained. With the destruction of the Tower came peace… but nothing was the same.
A Game that Makes you Think and Keeps You on Your Toes
TOS, as an iPad app, plays somewhat like everyone’s favorite puzzle game, “Candy Crush” – but easier, and with emphasis on quick finger movements. Players move colored “gemstones” across a game board. Making a line composed of at least three gemstones of the same color enables your Summons of the corresponding color to attack the enemies before you. Each color – seven in all – is connected to seven elements: red carries fire’s heat, blue represents water’s power, green exudes earth’s strength, yellow bathes in holy light, violet is drenched in darkness, and pink heals your life force. It takes wit to make combinations of four or five gemstones in patterns such as crosses or L shapes to deal more damage or to heal more – it’s definitely not a walk in the park, but it’s fun.
At this point, you might be thinking of Summons. What are those?
“Summons” – these are basically the bread-and-butter of this iPad app. They are in the form of cards, all of different elemental affinities, all with portraits expertly drawn. These cards can be leveled up and evolved to unlock stronger, more fantastic, and more intimidating forms. With more than 300 cards available for the picking, many players make it their mission to gain as many powerful cards as they can. Great art, cool music, well-thought game mechanics, a decently challenging difficulty curve, and nice events every now and then — TOS is one iPad app that will get you playing again and again, dear reader. You’ll love it!
