context-menu

When you right click on your desktop then a menu list comes.  That is called context menu.  There are some useful menus by default. But you can also customize that menu. You can add your favorite frequently used programs to the context menu for quick and easy access.

So lets learn how to add programs into desktop context menu.

ADDING PROGRAMS TO DESKTOP CONTEXT MENU

You have to first go to the registry editor.
  • Open Run (Windows key + R)
  • Type regedit and press enter
  • Go to the following location in your registry editor
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDesktopBackgroundShell

Once you reach the location you need to create a new key.
  • Right click on Shell
  • Go to new -> key
  • Give the name to the key like if you want to add calculator to the context menu the name calculator or calc
  • Now create a new key inside the key you just created. Give “command” (without quotes) to the new key.
  • On the right pane you will see a string named default. Right click on it and click on modify
  • On value data type calc (for calculator)
edit-string

Since calculator is a windows application; so you do not need to give the full path to the application. But if you want to create shortcut for a non windows application then you need to give the full path on value data.
Now you can check your context menu. You will see a new menu calculator.

ADVANCE OPTIONS – ADDING DESKTOP CONTEXT MENU

Go to the key Calculator (or the name you given while creating your menu) and right click on it

  • Add two string values named Icon and Position
For icon you can simply put the application path and it will automatically find the default icon for the shortcut
For position you can use the following data value
Top
