iPad used as a Menu Card at Sydney Restaurant!

You must have seen ipad installed at different places like cars, airlines etc. But now here is the news that an Australian restaurant is using iPad as an interactive menu card instead of the traditional printed menus.

Yes that’s the Global Mundo Tapas in north Sydney Rydges Hotel, which is using iPad. They have a custom-made iPad application named the Mundo App, which allows users to browse their favorite dishes and wines through virtual pages of the menu with their finger. When you’ll visit the Hotel they I’ll present you an iPad with the Mundo menu app made for the menu instead of old menu cards.

This is a unique stuff. To some people this might look crazy but if you think from another angle, it will not only be entertaining and interactive but it will also cut down the old menu cost. Although it costs more than but it will benefit in the long run and also it will ultimately be environment friendly.

  • Diners can peruse the dishes and see a picture of what the dish looks like along with tasting notes before compiling their order and sending it wirelessly to the kitchen.
  • The iPad menu can also suggest the best wines to go with certain dishes and suggest the best food pairings.
  • When ordering steak, users can even specify how they’d like the meat cooked and which sauce they’d prefer. It will even ask them if they’d like fries with that.
  • Mundo’s iPad menu app can also help keep track of stock levels so if certain dishes and wines sell out they will automatically disappear off the on-screen menu. It will even ask them if they’d like fries with that.

Area General Manager of Rydges Hotels & Resorts, Craig Simpson, said:

  • We’ve been working on this idea for a couple of months now, and it’s extremely exciting to see it all come to life. In the past I’ve struggled to find a unique and dynamic menu format that suits the Mundo brand – but the iPad is perfect!”
  • “We have something that presents really well, sells our food really well and is absolutely dynamic. The iPad menu would eventually make it possible to order food based on the weather or even match dishes to a person’s mood.”

HI cool I have already said that this is the future!!

I believe that sooner or latter most of the restaurants will use iPad menus or tablet menus. I google and found out about a few companies in the field but this one looks serious : http://www.emenu-international.com/ipadmenu

Cool app !
