Sony_Booting_Issue

I bought a Sony Vaio Laptop yesterday. The model number is E14125. It is having 3rd generation core i3 processer with 4gb RAM and 1gb Graphics. The HDD space is 500gb.

Windows 8 is preinstalled in it. I thought that lets install Ubuntu in it. So I just tried to boot it from the optical drive but it did not happen.
Then I thought; there might something wrong with the BIOS settings.
I tried to open the BIOS but could not succeed. I tried with F2, F3 and delete keys but bios didn’t open.

There was an assist key at the top of they keyboard of my laptop. I thought lets press it.

VAIO CARE | RESCUE MODE

When I pressed open the laptop opened with this mode, having the following options

  • Recover or maintain your system [F10]
  • Start from media (USB device/Optical disc) [F11]
  • Start from network [F12]
  • Start BIOS setup [F2]
  • Shut down [F4]
  • Start windows [ESC]
  • Select Language [F1]
As you can see, there is an option starting from USB or optical drive, I tried this one but it said that operating system not found after booting. I did not get it because a bootable disc was inserted which was booting in other systems properly.

HYBRID BIOS

Now as I failed in starting from an optical disc; I thought to check the bios setting. Again I am telling as the sony vaio is having the hybrid bios so for opening bios shutdown your laptop and press assist button.
Now you will get the VAIO Care | Rescue Mode.
Press F2 or use arrow keys to select start Bios setup from the menu and press enter.
Now I changed the boot device priority of optical disc drive and kept it at number 1 position.
Now I restarted again but it was still not booting from the Optical Drive. Now it was frustrating. Now this is what happen to me though eventually I became able to boot from the optical drive.
Now the question arises; How?
This is what I am gonna tell you.

BOOTING FROM OPTICAL DRIVE

  • Open BIOS
  • Go to Boot Menu
  • You will find Boot Mode
  • Boot Mode setting is now UEFI, change it to the second option Legacy
  • Boot your laptop with an optical disc
  • It is now booting
