Top 5 Video Games to Look Forward to This Holiday Season!
Now that the holiday season is upon us, gaming news sources have been busy predicting the hottest titles to be released before the end of this year. Here are five of the most anticipated games for consoles and PCs that will be arriving soon in North America.
1. Star Wars: The Old Republic
BioWare’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series features some of the best games based on George Lucas’ franchise. These RPGs offer compelling storylines and complex character development that allow players to choose between good or evil paths. On December 20th, The Old Republic will be the first sequel to be released as a Massively Multiplayer Online game. Players can choose to become part of the Galactic Republic or the Sith Empire. Like other MMOs, The Old Republic features several races, classes and talents to choose from for both cooperative and player vs. player encounters.
2. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
When Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed was first released for the Xbox 360, it became a huge success due to its action-packed blend of stealth combat and open world exploration. Revelations, set to release on November 15th, represents the fourth major entry in the series and continues the story of Desmond Miles and his assassin ancestors Altaïr and Ezio. Players will be able to use a new tool called the hookblade, which can be used as a zipline or as a way to pull enemies closer. The game also features the ability to craft various kinds of bombs to add to Ezio’s deadly arsenal, giving players more diverse methods to kill their targets.
3. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Nintendo Wii owners can’t wait to play the latest entry in Shiguru Miyamoto’s beloved Legend of Zelda series, set to arrive on November 20th. Players will explore the land of Hyrule before the events of Ocarina of Time to witness the forging of the Master Sword. Skyward Sword features a more innovative dungeon system as well as new items like a flying beetle that can be used to retrieve objects. Moreover, the combat takes full advantage of the Wii MotionPlus, and gaming news sources claim that the controls work perfectly. These changes are expected to take the Zelda series to a whole new level.
4. Super Mario 3D Land
The holiday season also marks the arrival of Nintendo’s latest handheld system, the 3DS, and no Nintendo system launch can be complete without a new title for the Super Mario Bros. series. Taking advantage of the system’s stereoscopic technology, 3D Land features gameplay similar to earlier 3D titles such as Super Mario 64, but it also contains 2D platform elements and the return of the Tanooki Suit, a favorite power-up for fans of the series. This game will be released on November 13th.
5. Saints Row: The Third
Volition’s latest addition to the Saints Row series is scheduled to release on November 15th. This time, the Third Street Saints battle their rival The Syndicate in the town of Steelport. Players who love an open world crime game with plenty of humor and over-the-top action should enjoy The Third as it continues in its series’ silly direction.
